Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 Risk Test (ADA)

Equations

(Open Calc) Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 Risk Test (ADA)

Background

  1. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), once known as adult-onset or noninsulin-dependent diabetes (NIDDM), is a chronic condition that affects metabolism of glucose, the main source of fuel for the body
  2. In type 2 DM, the body either resists the effects of insulin, or doesn't produce enough insulin to maintain a normal glucose level
  3. If left untreated, type 2 DM can be life-threatening
  4. There's currently no cure for type 2 DM, but it can be well managed by eating well, exercising and maintaining a healthy weight
  5. If diet and exercise don't control your blood sugar, you may need diabetes medications or insulin therapy
  6. Screening for type 2 DM is an important component of prevention
  7. This Risk Test is a quick and easy way from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) to check the risk for developing type 2 DM
